10 years on – We Remember Christchurch Earthquake

Every year in New Zealand we have roughly around 15,000 earthquakes but only 100 or 150 are large enough to be felt. A decade ago 4:35am on the 4th of September in Christchurch residents in the city awoke a 7.1 magnitude earthquake.

It has been 10 years since the natural disaster had occurred in New Zealand. The earthquake was near a town called Darfield, approximately 40 km away from Christchurch.

It was so strong that it was felt all over the South Island. Buildings as far as Timaru and Dunedin were damaged from the blasts.
